Meet Connie Nam: Founder of Astrid & Miyu

Astrid and Miyu is a London based, contemporary jewelry brand that has expanded into the US. We were born in 2012 when our founder and CEO, Connie Nam saw a gap in the market for unique and affordable jewelry. The brand quickly built cult status among celebrities and influencers and has been worn by the likes of Georgia May Jagger, Pippa Middleton and Lydia Millen.

We are known for the perfectly curated ear and this went hand in hand when we developed our very own piercing studios in 2018. We now have 4 stores dotted across London and two concessions, both London and Manchester. We also have had a few pop-ups in New York.

As we have grown, we have never forgotten our roots. We were built by strong women and think it’s important that we build each other up and always encourage each other to shoot for the stars, or at least wear them in your ears ;).

Connie Nam was born in Seoul and raised in Washington D.C. and Seattle. The hussle and bussle of the cosmopolitan city of London appealed to her and the lust for learning and growing enticed her to apply for the MBA at London Business School. She longed to turn her passion for business and love of unique, contemporary jewelry styles into a bonefide company of her own. Immediately after graduating, her dream became a reality and she founded Astrid and Miyu in 2012.

Connie started the company from her little flat in Notting Hill. The first ever Astrid and Miyu website cost just £500 to make and develop and Connie handled everything from product design and marketing to sending orders! Post office visits became a daily occurrence.

Connie’s vision was to design unique but wearable, fashion-forward yet understated jewelry. As Astrid and Miyu evolves, her inspiration increasingly comes from customers - what they wear, what they do and what they want. The trend for ear-stacking and mix-and-match jewelry, for example, has become a big part of what Astrid and Miyu is all about.

As well as running a successful business and being heavily involved in all aspects of the brand, Connie also has two kids under two! Proving that we really can do it all.

Connie’s top advice for young entrepreneurs: “Test your product/idea as soon as possible as your initial concept will never be the one you end up with. Also, do your best in whatever job you're in, as you never know which one of the skills you learnt will be useful in starting your own company.”
