Piercing Aftercare

Give your piercing some TLC
The aftercare of a piercing is as important as the piercing itself, it will need some love and attention in order to heal properly. The healing time will vary depending upon your age, health status, general diet, lifestyle and care of the piercing. If your immune system is compromised or your diet is poor, then the healing process may be a little prolonged.
Don't worry, we've got you covered with our advice for fresh piercings below!

Clean your piercing with a saline solution twice a day until it is fully healed. You should do this for a minimum of 2-3 months for lobes and a minimum or 6 month for cartilage, and whenever your piercing is irritated.
To make a saline solution with 250ml of warm water and 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. Soak a cotton pad in the solution and place it on the piercing for 5 minutes followed by a water rinse.
Always wash your hands before touching your piercing otherwise you could cause infection. Try to avoid touching the piercing, it is not necessary to rotate the jewellery as you might unscrew the ball from your piercing.
Don't change your piercing too soon, earlobe piercings can be changed after min 8 weeks, cartilage can be changed after min 6 months. Earlobe piercings can take 5-6 months to 100% heal and cartilage piercings can take 9-12 months.

Swimming is not permitted for 4 weeks after getting your ears pierced. Avoid swimming in public baths or the sea too.
Where possible avoid sleeping on your piercing. This can cause irritation and prolong healing. Also do not pick, scratch or play at the area.
Do not use ointments, peroxide, contact lenses solution, Savlon, alcohol or pierced ears solutions on your piercing. These are not intended for long-term use and may irritate.
Do not drink alcohol within 24 hours of the procedure.
